  In this chapter, Elizabeth meets Mr. Bingley's friend, Mr. Darcy, at a ball hosted by Mr. Bingley. Mr. Darcy is rude and condescending towards Elizabeth, causing her to immediately dislike him. She shares her opinion of him with her friends, including Mr. Wickham, who claims to have been wronged by Mr. Darcy in the past. Elizabeth is intrigued by Mr. Wickham's story and starts to doubt Mr. Darcy's character even more.
