Therefore, habits are the greatest guide in life. This principle alone can make our experience useful to us and cause us to expect in the future a string of events similar to the past. Without the influence of experience, we know nothing but what is present in our memory and senses. We will never know how to use our means to achieve our ends, and we will never use our natural powers to produce any results. If so, all action will cease at once, and so will most thinking.
