Fantastic Adventure
A Fantastic Adventure of Global Travel, A Noble Carol of British Spirits
——Around the World In Eighty Days Book Review Travelling around the world in eighty days isn’t a difficult thing at present, while it is more than absurd in 19th century when science and technology were underdeveloped. In this fiction of the famous French writer Jules Verne,an unexpected conversation involved Phileas Fogg and his four friends into a bet of 20000 pounds on whether he could travel around the world in eighty days. Phileas
Fogg was an retired gentleman ,leading a tranquil, peaceful, high-qualified and regular solitary life, manifested by the cosy, comfortable and tidy furniture and decoration in his house. In most time,Fogg is an eccentric gentleman with astonished tranquility and coldness,as if nothing could interest him at all.Actually, Fogg is a typical English gentleman with the adventurous spirits, the noble generosity and the tranquil courage, especially when he decided to save Aouda in Indian forest, when he determined to defend Passepartout against Indians in America, when he made shrewd and bold decisions in the face of great difficulties.Although Phileas is a refined gentleman with good manners,he has strong self-esteem that he wouldn’t tolerate duelling at home and he would fight abroad when his honor was attacked by others. For instance,he seriously dueled with Proctor who had insulted him and his country.
As for Passepartout,a French servant of Phileas Fogg,he is also an important role in the fiction. He was a clever and easygoing man contrasted with Phileas Fogg.He was more than loyal to his master, always ready to further Fogg’s dignity and interests.Additionally,Passepartout was willing to assist others with a chivalrous spirit. He was also a typical French man with sincere and distinct emotion, who didn’t hesitated to express his love and unhappiness directly.During their journey,Passepartout turned against the detective Fix who regarded Phileas Fogg as a criminal though he loved talking with Fix.Mr. Fogg appreciated him a lot since he made great endeavor in his eighty day’s journey.

In the end,Phileas Fogg undoubtedly won his bet with his friends. However,Fogg didn’t only receive the bonus since he had spent quite a lot in the way. Most significantly, he has achieved a nearly impossible task that would give him invaluable spiritual treasure and he received the true love from Aouda. He represented the nobility and the adventurous courage of the British people. And this is what I’m impressed most via reading and why I conclude this fiction as a fantastic adventure of global travel and a noble carol of British spirits.
