The book review
This book is a book which includes many chapters of the most classical fictions. After reading it, I swell many feelings with this book. Now I will choose some chapters which impressive on me to make a brief book review on this book..
The first chapter is Companionship of Book. This chapter illustrates the importance of book to us. In this chapter, the author hold the view that book is our friend. In the sentence ‘A good book may be among the best of friends. It is the same today that it always was, and it will never change’, the author put forward his viewpoint directly. And in my opinion, a good also is a good friend. When I was frustrated, I can relief my through reading a good book; when I was happy, I also can share my pleasure with a good book. And just as the author says ‘Books introduce us into the best society they bring us into the presence of the greatest minds that have ever lived’, we can experience the outstanding person’s ideologies in a good book.
The second chapter is The Last Leaf. This chapter illustrates the importance of hope to us. It narrates that a poor student, Johnsy, suffering from pneumonia. When she looked the leaves out of the window are blown down by wind gradually. She thought the last leaf represents her. Its fall, was on behalf of her own death. Behrman, a great painter, after hearing Sue narrated her roommate’s story. He decided to help Johnsy. At a night with rainstorm, he painted a leaf never to die. He make d up a white lie, but he unfortunately suffered from pneumonia and died. Finally, the leaf still remained in the old wall, and Johnsy also regained her hope and recovered well. After reading it, I gained the truth that a person can have anything, but you cannot live without hope. This is an eloquent story that shocked me.
The third chapter is The Cop and the Anthem. This fiction narrates that a vagrant Souby, with the approaching of winter. He tried all kinds of ways to prison to spend his winter. But he doesn’t succeed. When he heard the anthem from the church, he decided to make himself a good person. But at that moment, he was arrested with unknown reasons. This fiction reflected the complex American society.
The fourth chapter is The Gift of the Magi. This fiction narrates the story of a couple in order to buy present for each other, they all lost their treasure. But they are not pity for this. After reading it, I know that true love is selfless.
The fifth chapter is The Necklace. The heroine is a small civil servant’s wife. Once, she accepted the invitation of the secretary of the party. Because of vanity, Mrs Luotile borrowed a necklace from a noble woman. But she lost the necklace in the ball carelessly. In order to compensate the same necklace to the friend, she fell into the trap of usury, began the hardships of life. In the end, when she paid back the money, the woman told the necklace is fake. After reading the story, I know the principle that don’t be too vain in life sometimes. And be true to your friend.
The sixth chapter is Notre Dame De Paris. This chapter narrates that the woman was framed by an old woman and then she was arrested in the prison. After all the difficulties, she was saved by Cacimodo at the last minute. The author describe the plot vividly as if we just in the real scene.
The seventh chapter is Gone with Wind. This chapter narrates the situation of Scarlett after the death of Melanie. She realized that Rhett was the real one who loves her. Thus, she wanted to express her heart to Rhett. But Rhett was very disappointed with her and he rejected to accept the heart of Scarlett. Moreover, he has planned to leave Scarlett. Scarlett cannot accept this news at once, but she only has to accept it at last. This chapter told us that we should not wait to lose to know how to cherish.
The eighth chapter is Robinson Crusoe. The chapter narrates that Robinson recue the savage who he called Friday later. After saving him. Robinson taught him to say English and taught him to live as a human. As time goes by, Friday was intimate with Robinson and they lived in the island happily.
