Chapter 1 - 1

Buck,the main character in the novel,was a dog king who lived lightheartedly in Judge Miler's estate. Unfortunately,he was abducted by Manuel,a gardener's helper who often gambling. Buck was successively abused by a stranger with a wounded hand and a saloon-keeper. He suffered intolerable pain from thristy and hunger of the endless journey in baggage car and express car. Ultimately,he met his new buyer,a stout man with a red sweater(her in after referred to RS). He struggled and fought for the dignity of the dog king but finally beaten by RS. Buck has recieved a lesson that a man with a club was a law-founder. For my point of view,just like Hemingway wrote in his novel,the Old Man And the Sea,that“A man can be destroyed but not defeated".Buck suffered from kidnap,illness,as well as abuse but never gave up. It was his growth and also the spirits of determination and bravery.
