《野性的呼唤》书评

After reading this exhilarating and extraordinary book, I am deeply
moved by Buck, the remarkable hybridized dog. At the very
beginning, Buck lived leisurely and comfortable life, he was a pampered
pet dog with a high sense of self-esteem. With the gold rush
approaching, Buck was abducted and obliged to start his own Westward
Movement. He came across plentiful torment all along the way. His pride
was badly wounded as well for he was taunted and laughted at.
What deserves a special mention is a stout and fiendish man in a red
sweater, who is a nightmare to Buck. That man beat dogs ferociously and
used a club to tame Buck. However, Buck can be defeated but cannot be
beaten. So when he was sold again to the chilling Yea Beach, he learned
fast and won himself a high reputation. Just as Jack London put
it:" His development (or retrogression) was rapid. His muscles
became hard as iron, and he grew callous to all ordinary pain. He
achieved an internal as well as external economy. He could eat anything,
no matter how loathsome or indigestible; and, once eaten, the juices of
his stomach extracted the last least particle of nutriment; and his
blood carried it to the farthest reaches of his body, building it into
the toughest and stoutest of tissues. Sight and scent became remarkably
keen, while his hearing developed such acuteness that in his sleep he
heard the faintest sound and knew whether it heralded peace or
peril."Buck suffered a lot even after until he met John Thornton, a
bold and kindhearted man. Buck was very attached to Thornton and bored
great love to him. Buck was so loyal to John that he earned him lots of
money and saved his life several times. Unfortunately, Thornton was
murdered by the Yeehats. Buck was too furious to kill quite a few
murderers and broke from bondage in the meantime. So he responded to the
call of the wild which was rooted deeply in his heart. He
returned to the wolves and became the leader of the pack, singing a song
of the younger world. l really admire Buck for his adamancy and
his attitude towards life. He constantly strive to be stronger and owns
indestructible spirits. He never give up hope and adapt to any
situation. Buck is really a inspiration to us all!
