Chapter 5-1

Buck and his friends were bought by an interesting family consisted of Hal,  Charles and Mercedes in a terrible situation.  They didn't even know how to set up a tent and they quarreled with each other all the time.  They failed to make a plan of distributing food and exacerbated the tragic situation.  Mercedes believed she had "woman's privilege" and rejected to walk anymore. In my point of view, the family was a symbol of "a civilized society",  but it didn't work in the brutal North. Because here, everything and every relationship went back to the primitive society.  There is only one way to survive and that was to have absolute power.
