The Call of The Wild

19322120

The novel The Call of The Wild is written by Jack London and published in 1903. It describes a story about a dog named Buck. He lives in a very warm environment at first. But then he is secretly sold to north to pull snow sled, where the severe and freezing environment gradually changes his character. He becomes stronger physically and mentally during his conflicts against the nature, other dogs and humans. In the end, he gets out of all the constraints and becomes himself as the head of a group of wolves.

Jack London wrote this position by the inspiration of his trip to Dawson. In 1897, Jack London left San Francisco and traveled across the Del Beach to the Stewart River. Over the next few years, Jack London crossed the Chercott Strait, made gold in the Henderson River, and built a boat in Lake Man, lingua del Man, Lake Bernard, Lake Tagesin, Marsh Lake, 50 miles of lake, and finally reached Dawson. He wants to use the Buck’s experience to reflect the social situation at that time. He criticizes the law of the jungle in human society, hoping for a free and fine life for everyone. In the book, the encounter of Buck is actually some people’s in reality. The wild animals and humans just brings out Buck’s wild nature. London puts his deep thoughts in this position so everyone read it can feel it in his heart.

In my opinion, the story shapes a brave, firm and persistent character Buck. I don’t see him as a dog but a man. He overcomes so many difficulties and explores his potential all the time. It is so hard. Many times I feel my blood boiling when reading the novel. I have witnessed a man become strong from weak during many unusual experiences. How I was shocked!
