The Call of the Wild

The Call of the Wild is a medium-length novel  written by Jack London, an American writer. It was published in 1903.   The Call of the Wild  was inspired by a trip by Jack London in Dawson. The leading role of the novel is a dog named Buck.   Buck is a dog of judge Miller's family. He has been living in a warm valley in Southern California. Later, it was sold to the cold, remote and gold rich Alaska in the north of the United States, and became a sled dog.   Buck exercised himself in the bad living environmen t  and kept growing through experience. And   then he beat Spitz, the dog king, and won the first place in the pack of sled dogs.   At the end of the trip, he was sold to the brutal Hal. When Hal hit Buck and Buck covered all over with cuts and bruises,   J ohn Thornton saved him and treated Buck very well.   The rescue of John Thornton made buck feel warm and determined to be loyal to the benefactor.   But in the end, the death of his benefactor left him completely free of worries. He resolutely went to the wilderness and returned to nature.

In the novel, Buck is just a dog, but it represented the oppressed people of the society at that time. This novel reflects the social reality of survival of the fittest. Only the best one can survive.   Buck has a natural sense of curiosity, shame and justice. He also has a selfless love, which are fully reflected in his relationship with John Thornton. He is just a dog, but he is more human than many people around him. At first, he had peaceful and comfortable life. When all things changed, the painful experiences devastated him, but also made him strong. Finally, he won back his kingdom.   Compared with many people, buck is smart, brave, kind, loyal and grateful. The hypocrisy and cruelty of human beings are so unbearable. Human beings believe that they have the right to the truth and that they are the supreme masters of dogs. It is because of a series of selfish actions of human beings that lead to the tragic fate of dogs. At the same time, human beings also eat the consequences of their own - the Hal family is buried in the White River, and buck finally returns to the wilderness.

In my opinion, this novel is exactly exposing the social reality. The change of living environment had changed buck from a pet in a civilized society to a king of ruthless groups in the depth of the wilderness, which was due to Buck's nature; at the same time, it is also a true portrayal of the real life of American society. Only when people are deceitful and predatory can survive, and competition is everywhere. This is the reality of American society. Jack London has mercilessly flogged this social reality in this regard. The hypocritical morality of the bourgeoisie has been exposed and criticized mercilessly. The world in the eyes of dogs, the essence of human beings, especially the realistic essence of American society are vividly depicted.   This is not only a story, but also a discussion on the civilization in the soul of human beings.
