The Call of the Wild, written by Jack London, is a novel about life and nature. The story tells the life of Buck, a dog born in a well-off family. But unfortunately, he was abducted and sold to Alaska as a sled dog. In such tough environment, he determined to change herself and eventually, he became the leader of the sled dog. But poor Buck didn’t meet a warm-hearted owner. When he was about to be killed by Hal, John Thornton saved him and became his owner. However, happiness was transient. After Mr. Thornton died, the last bond between buck and the human society was broken. In the end, Buck listened to the call of the wild at the bottom of his heart and returned to the wild.

In the story, the author makes a deep comparison between the personality of dog and human. Buck is responsible, brave, smart, dignified, who has all of the good qualities. However, the human is greedy, barbarous and hypocritical. There is no doubt that The Call of the Wild reflects American social realities and criticizes the loss of human ethics in the 20th century.
