the LOVE of ROMEO and JULIET
This book tells a tragic love story. Although Romeo’s and Juliet’s family had conflict for a long time, Romeo and Juliet fell in love. They still wanted to be together despite their family's obstruction. However, Romeo drank the poison and Juliet shot herself because of misunderstanding. They die also their families made a compromise.
What impresses me in this book is the heroine Juliet, she is so courageous that She want to marry Romeo in spite of the opposition of her family. She is so strong that she is not afraid of the family's obstruction and overcome difficulties.
For example, she risked her life to take the priest's medicine, only for being with her lover. In modern society, we seldom see such pure love.
Romeo and Juliet is called the Western version of Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai. These two books express the criticism of feudalism and the pursuit of free marriage. Because of the differences between Chinese and Western cultures, Shakespeare expresses the love between the characters in a straightforward romantic dialogue, Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai shows the love between the man and the woman with implicit metaphor.
