In this winter vocation,I have read Little Women. Little Women is set on
American Civil War,when the capitalism was on the rise and social
contradictions were more and more obvious. It is based on the life of
four sisters in an ordinary family in New England in the 19th
century. The novel emphasizes the concept of personal
dignity,self-reliance and self-discipline.Its content is plain but
delicate, and its structure is simple but far-reaching. It is universally
acknowledged that war time is never a beautiful time for every typical
family. The family in Little Women is a good example——because of the
war, four daughter’s father have to join the army and walk to the battle
filed. However, what empresses me most is that even under this kind of
difficult and poor situation, four sisters still keep optimistic and
positive. They love each other and their mother. They all had their own
colourful and interesting life.Although sometimes they were struck by
some trouble and sadness, happiness and love are always the main rhythm
in this book. For example, the third sister Beth, who had been ill since
she was a child, was given the most comfortable room at home, which was
filled with her favourite things, such as flowers, paintings, cats and so
on.Even if Beth was still dying of illness untimely in her teenage
years, it was such a comfort to see her second sister writing admiring
verses for her, and to feel that her family loved her so much.So she
left without any regret. The next example is that, when Joe’s father was
sick and her mother had to take care of him, Joe cut off her thick hair
and sold it for twenty-five dollars, which was finally sent to her
mother. Moreover,I am also deeply moved by the kindness and fairness
showed in this book. For example,Beth loved music so much and was always
longing for a piano. But her family was too poor to buy a piano for
her. When Grandpa Lawrence, the neighbor of four girls, heard of it, he
gave Beth his late granddaughter's piano without any hesitation. We can
see the virtue of helping neighbors through
