The call from the soul
狐狸宝宝
The call for Buck is from the wild, and everyone has their call
from soul. We learn our soul carefully, and later, hear our soul
carefully as well. The writer tells us this point by Buck’s life
experience. To begin with, learn our soul. In psychology, experts
use color to describe different people’s soul. The out-going people
usually have an orange soul, and cool people may own a blue soul.
However, human kind is complicated, even for animal nature. As for Buck,
he has half soul as a dog, and another half as a wolf. When born in
Judge Miller’s sun-kissed house, he lived as a king with dignity came
from good living and universal respect. He can fight for hunting,
meanwhile, stand about gently Judge’s naughty grandson riding on him.
Behaving as a nobility, he was born to be the leader and develop good
culture. After being sold to the Yea beach, he had a long
nightmare. He started to know another part of life, which is confused
and dangerous. Only having the law of club and fang, he learned to adapt
quickly. Experiencing a hard time, he turned to inspiring his potential
of wolf-blood. Storm and hunger taught Buck to struggle for life and
built a strong heart never given up. Crafty and fierce Spitz like a
whip, pushing Buck to find an ecstasy sounding the deeps of nature. He
challenges old leader, and mastered other dogs well. He requested what
he deserves, and never shown mercy. He was also determined, which could
be shown clearly. As he realized the fool of Charles and his partner,
and foresaw the coming of death, he refused to move, even under the rain
of heavier blows. The next part, hear of the call from soul and
make a wise decision. He felt the love again from Thornton who saved him
from the fools. He enjoyed the most happy time with Thornton, which is
his last bond with human as a dog. Buck hung out in the forest, and met
his brother, a wolf. When he finally faced the death of Thornton, he was
sorrow and angry. Comparing with the time when spending on the ice
filed, Buck was closer to the wild. Nonetheless, he didn’t just walk
away. He chose to stay, until he had no reason to stay. As all his
relationships with humans are gone with wind, he turned to the wild. He
runs throw like a ghost, hunts like a cunning devil, and howls like a
wolf. Buck digs out his soul gradually, and makes decision determinedly.
The call of wild brings him to the life he wants, free, wild and
thrilling. Buck’s experience shows us how changeable environment
helps us dig out who we are, and how to listen the call from soul. In
the novel, Buck makes decisions by the relationships with people, animal
friends and the wild. As for human beings, we may make decisions by the
relationships with people around, dreams and society trends. Accepting
the change of environment is a good way for us to know deeper what we
want and choose better what we want. Besides the main idea and
story, I would have to say that the writer really has an excellent
talent of writing. I totally fell into the story by his magic words. In
the end, I prefer to quote some words from Jack London. Old longing
nomadic leap, Chafing at custom’s chain; Again from its brumal sleep
Wakens the ferine strain. His great throat a-bellow as he sings a song
of the younger world, which is the song of the pack.
