Lion
Any real work of art can exude the flavour of symbolism and fable, whether it's the old man and the sea or the animation based on it. When I saw the beginning of the animation, the lion on the African coast, my eyes were filled with tears.
"He no longer dreams of storms, of women, of great events, of big fish, of fighting, of wrestling, of his wife. Now he only dreams of lions in some places and on the beach. They played like kittens in the twilight, and he loved them as much as he loved the boy. "
I think it's a great description of the heroism of old age.
The old man is old, and the storm symbolizes the hardships and adventures on the journey of becoming a hero, which he has witnessed and experienced. He's no longer young, and he won't have the blood of a boy who was a little boy, and he's eager to take risks. He is a mature, weather beaten man.
Furthermore, he didn't dream about women any more, about big fish. Treasure and womanhood have lost their appeal to him. In other words, material things can no longer satisfy him.
He no longer dreams about his wife, about the big things that happened, about the fights and fights. His wife left him, and the strong man was alone. He has experienced the grief of losing his spouse and has no one to accompany him. And now he has come out of the pain, experienced the test of loneliness. He no longer indulges in the past and lies on the credit book of the past. He is no longer rigidly attached to the details of those disputes, those aggressive and competitive. Likewise, he tamed this young, overt blood. But his past fighting has been internalized into his strong spirit, so he can think of lions. Those lions accompany him, just like kittens. That is the fighting spirit of the real strong.
I think the same spirit is true of old people. The old man is eager for challenge and even fighting. He thought the fish was his friend, but he had to kill it, because only he could kill it, only he was worthy to kill it.
