Impressions after
Hawthorne's "Red Words" was based on New England in the 17th
century colonial period. At that time, the Puritans in Europe came to
Marceraza, Marcels, in North America in order to avoid religious
persecution, and the story took place in Boston in this state. But the
colonial Puritans, the unity of politics and religion, on the one hand,
put the label of "original sin" on people, thus controlling
people's spiritual outlook; on the other hand, they decided the law and
the life and death of the people, and both law and religion were their
machines to control the people. Hester Prynne, the son of an English
nobleman, and Chillingworth, an old scholar, were married. They had
planned to go to New England together. But on the way, Chillingworth
sent Prynne to New England to settle down and take care of some things
himself. Unexpectedly, he was captured by heretics. After two years, he
arrived at the place where he and his wife had made an appointment.
Chillingworth was a quiet, gentle, learned man, but everything slowly
changed when he arrived in the new world. Bai Lan came to Boston first,
and had a relationship with the highly famous pastor Dingmesdale, and
had a son, a famous bead. After the incident was revealed, the local law
was convicted of adultery and asked her who was the man who had a
relationship with him. Bai Lan was brave and strong and never
disclosed. So they printed a bright red A in front of her chest. All of
this was slowly noticed by Qi Ling Ways and began to implement revenge.
In the end, the clergyman Dimmesdale died of illness seven years later
because of the torment of guilt in his heart. Before he died, he
admitted his guilt, admitted that Prynne was his wife, admitted that
Pearl was his daughter, and finally got salvation. Prynne had always
done good, so that the scarlet A was no longer the symbol of sin, but
the embodiment of holiness; On the contrary, in the author's opinion,
the real sinner is Chillingworth, because he has neither the love and
kindness of God nor the sympathy and compassion. After reading the
novel, I think Hawthorne is brilliant, not to say that he has become
brilliant without catering to the reader's imagination, but after
careful consideration, Hawthorne's talent-psychological analysis and
symbolism of the characters-has been used in the right place. In the
psychological analysis of the characters, the most colorful thing is the
pastor Dingmesdale. From the position of the character, Herstin Bilan
represents one side, Roger Qilinworth represents one. They all have
their own solid position, While the pastor believes the Puritans' codes
at the atmosphere of the Puritans, because she is not as good as
Heister's private affairs, she can't face the crowd bravely like
Heister.Invisible A -line. Pity and kindness, I think this should be the
feelings that Hawthorne wrote when writing "Red Words".
Although Bai Lan betrayed her husband, she was unintentional; On a woman
with a husband and gave birth to a daughter; on the contrary, Qi Ling
Wusi seemed to be a victim, but in order to revenge, he lost his
compassion and kindness, and became abominable.
