Robinson Crusoe is a novel, first published on April 25, 1719. It is
written by British writer Daniel Defoe. After its publication, the book
was very popular and has been adapted into films and TV dramas for many
times. The main characters of the book are few and the content is simple
and easy to understand. In terms of writing techniques, the book is
narrated in the first person, giving people a sense of reality. It is
worth mentioning that this book is inspired by real events. In September
1704, a Scottish sailor named Alexander Selkirk quarreled with the
captain and was abandoned by the captain in the Atlantic Ocean. Later,
he lived alone on a desert island for 4 years and 4 months, and was
finally rescued by Captain woods Rogers. The author was infected by this
story, took it as a frame, combined with his imagination and experience
to think, and created Robinson Crusoe. Robinson Crusoe was born in a
respectable merchant family. He longed for sailing and wanted to go
abroad to see things. He went to the sea without telling his parents
went to London, where he bought some fake beads and toys to do business
in Africa. During the fourth voyage, the ship encountered a storm and
hit a reef on the way. All the companions on the ship were killed. Only
Robinson survived and drifted alone to a deserted island. He used the
mast of the sunken ship to make a raft, and again and again carried the
food, clothes, guns and ammunition on the ship to the shore, and set up
a tent on the side of the hill to settle down. Then he put a fence
around the tent with sharpened wooden stakes and dug a hole behind the
tent to live. He used simple tools to make furniture such as tables and
chairs. He hunted game for food and drank fresh water from the river. He
overcame the initial difficulties. Robinson was born in a middle-class
family. To a certain extent, his life is free of many troubles. His
happiness index is higher than most people. His father advised him to
keep his head above water and not to take risks. The old man's words
were undoubtedly full of wisdom. He was heartbroken for his son.
However, Robinson does not listen. He insists on his own ideas and
behaviors. After repeatedly going to sea, he finally pays the price and
falls on a desert island. After the real disaster happened, he regretted
not listening to his father's advice. Like many children in reality, we,
I always think that our ideas are not wrong. We usually ignore the
advice of our family, and we can only accept those correct suggestions
when we really fall down. This tells us that "if we don't listen to
the old people's words, we will suffer in the face". Our parents
are many years older than us. To some extent, they know more than us.
Therefore, we should think carefully about their suggestions. In
addition, Robinson's fourth trip to sea is actually impulsive and
unwise. He clearly has enough wealth and these assets are enough for him
to live a good life, but he still risks going to sea again. This time,
he failed to escape his bad luck and was exiled to an isolated island.
To a certain extent, we can say that Robinson's experience is entirely
his own, and is caused by bad factors in his character. First, he did
not think in advance and acted impulsively. Second, he is too greedy for
money, because money puts his life at risk. Third, he is not satisfied.
He wants more when he has enough money. From his tragic experience, we
can see that it is very important to consider and plan in advance. At
the same time, it is not good to be too greedy. He began to grow barley
and rice on the island, made wooden mortar, wooden pestle and sieve,
processed flour and baked rough bread. He captured and domesticated wild
goats to breed. He also made pottery and so on to ensure his life needs.
At the other end of the desert island, a "country villa" and a
farm were built. Despite this, Robinson has never given up looking for a
way to leave the island. He cut down a big tree and spent five or six
months building a canoe. But the boat was too heavy to be towed into the
sea. He had to give up all his previous efforts and build a new small
boat. Robinson lived alone on the island for 15 years. One day, he found
a footprint on the coast of the island. Before long, he found human
bones and traces of fire. It turned out that a group of savages on the
outer islands had held a meat feast here. Robinson is astonished. Since
then, he has remained vigilant and paid more attention to things around
him. It was not until the 24th year that a group of savages came to the
island, taking captive savages who were sacrificed to be killed and
eaten. Robinson finds out and rescues one of them. Because that day was
Friday, Robinson named the rescued prisoner "Friday". Since
then, "Friday" has become Robinson's faithful servant and
friend. Then, Robinson saves a Spaniard and Friday's father with Friday.
Soon after, a British ship berthed near the island. The sailors on the
ship rebelled and abandoned the captain and other three people on the
island. Robinson and "Friday" helped the captain subdue the
rebellious sailors and recaptured the ship. He left the sailors on the
island and left the desert island with "Friday" and the
captain to return to England. At this time, Robinson had been away from
home for 35 years (28 years on the island). He got married in England
and had three children. After his wife died, Robinson went to sea again
to do business, passing by the deserted island where he lived. At this
time, the sailors and Spaniards who remained on the island had settled
down and multiplied. Robinson also sent some new immigrants, distributed
the land on the island to them, and left them with various daily
necessities. He left the island with satisfaction. When Robinson arrives
on the island, he has no place to live, does not know the specific
situation of his environment, and no one helps him. He himself was in a
very lonely situation. For most people, this situation may have fallen
into despair. But he didn't. after he accepted the reality, he began to
think of ways to use his intelligence and knowledge to create various
conditions for himself. This highlights the importance of the state of
mind. No matter what the situation, a calm state of mind is better than
a square inch of chaos. Not only that, I dare say that not everyone can
accomplish what Robinson did on the island. He was able to make bread,
tables, pots and so on successfully, which was largely due to his rich
knowledge. If it were not for this knowledge, he would not have such a
high standard of living on the island, and might even have died. It can
be seen that knowledge is very important. What we have learned may one
day become a tool to save our lives. Therefore, we should study
knowledge well, not only from textbooks, but also from life. Robinson
has lived on the island for 25 years. During this long time, he hardly
let himself rest. When it doesn't rain, he works outdoors, farming,
drying raisins, and domesticating goats. In the rainy season, he stays
at home to process grain and repair houses. His happy life on the island
is not easy. Every good condition is the result of his efforts. This
tells us that a good life is a struggle, and laziness can only
accomplish nothing. Before Robinson did not find that footprint, he was
carefree. For a long time, he had lived a very relaxed life and had no
psychological pressure. But after he found the footprints, he began to
know the existence of the savages. At this time, he realized that the
original danger did not exist, but had not been discovered. In this
case, the sheep he domesticated and the trees he planted are
particularly important. When I was reading, I was relieved because of
his relatively perfect preparation. It can be seen that dangers and
difficulties are sometimes potential and may be discovered suddenly.
Only when we have prepared a lot of things in advance can we provide
ourselves with confidence and a sense of security and will we not be at
a loss when threats suddenly appear. Therefore, it is necessary to have
a sense of hardship to a certain extent. The island in the works is
actually the England in the author's mind. Before the Renaissance, the
environment on the British island was so free and fascinating. After the
emergence of industry, the calm of the island was broken, followed by
the noise of machines and human beings. Therefore, in addition to
Robinson's enterprising spirit, another factor that attracts readers to
this novel is the free environment of the island - the independent space
away from the noise and industrial civilization. Robinson's experience
on the island represents the dream in people's hearts - with his own
hands, people can create their own ideal paradise on earth. The author
not only gives a thrilling description of Robinson's adventure and
suffering, but also, more importantly, as a writer with typical emerging
bourgeois consciousness, he has raised the industriousness, courage,
wisdom and creativity of people to an unprecedented level in his works,
affirming the value of people. He firmly believes that as the spirit of
all things, human beings have the ability to overcome difficulties,
conquer nature, and finally reach the other side of victory.
