Thoughts on the book
Dickens is no stranger to the majority of Chinese readers, several of his excellent novels are our must-read list, the most important literary carrier for self-growth and enhancing life experience, and even from literary considerations alone, Dickens's novels are worth reading. Dickens is also known as the "father of Christmas". One of my favorite quotes from the book is: The horses changed again and again, the road got farther and farther, and it was too late to go back, so I had to keep going. The morning fog had long since dissipated in a solemn passage, and the world of flowers and flowers was displayed in front of me.
The story told in Great Expectations is very simple, and it continues the image of Dickens's orphan. The protagonist of the novel, Pip, has been living with his abusive sister and simple brother-in-law since he was a child, both his parents have died. If nothing else, he will also inherit the life of his brother-in-law blacksmith, but accidents will definitely happen. He first rescued a prisoner on the run, which caused him a psychological shock; Then he was taken into the home of Hao Weixiang, who was rich but had an extremely radical personality, and saw the living conditions of the upper class and the beautiful Estella , a restless heart can no longer settle, he wants to be a superior person. But for a blacksmith apprentice, all this is wishful thinking, but miracles will happen. An unexpected and mysterious inheritance befalls him, and Pip enters the society of the superior and lives the life he has always dreamed of. But in this life, he gradually lost himself, pursued material enjoyment, and even did not hesitate to borrow debts. But as he went further and further down this path, the accident happened again, and the legacy was lost in the water, and he was beaten back to his original form. What kind of situation will Pip face at this time? We can imagine it. This is the main content of this novel, and it is also a life process of losing ourselves that deserves our reflection.
Different from the general storyline, the changes before and after a small person at the bottom gets money, Dickens's story is wonderful that Pip's patron is an exile, which adds a different color to the tragedy of the story, and also makes the drama of the story more prominent, when he was a child, he accidentally bumped into a fugitive and was threatened with stealing food and tools from his home, this matter has always been an inglorious history that Pip buried in his heart and did not want to recall, when the truth was revealed, all the time When the sponsor was the fugitive, it can be seen that Pip's inner shock and the collapse of the worldview, the person Pip didn't want to remember the most, it can be said that the person who existed like a nightmare when he was a child turned out to be the sponsor of his current life, which is how acceptable it is. That is, in the process of understanding the truth, Pip gradually became realistic, no longer obsessed with fantasy, had a different view of life, realized the shamefulness of his previous behavior, and grew. Conversely, the fact that a breakfast can allow a fugitive to fund a child who has devoted his life to an unrelated child shows that even the most evil people know how to be grateful, even if it is a very small thing, even if it is a child, adding a touch of warmth and light to this vain and impetuous world.
When we read this famous book nearly two hundred years ago, there is an essential difference between today's fast-food reading. At that time, novels were relatively slow-paced and meticulously described, but when we were able to read quietly, the sense of immersion, the delicate touch of the author's telling, really let us enter the world of literature. But when we can't read quietly, that's another state. This is my most obvious impression from reading Great Expectations.
I read the book twice in a row, the first time, I really couldn't calm down, just straightened out the plot of the whole story, knew the events and background of the novel, and knew what the author's specific ideas were trying to express. And when I read it for the second time, I really realized the ingenuity and meticulousness of the author's conception, and throughout the text, the author used a lot of the technique of "grass snake gray line, a thousand miles of veins". As an omniscient narrator, the author always provides us with the real plot of what happens in the story. And when we don't read through the whole novel and don't understand the subsequent plots, the elaborate plots of these authors are often ignored by us. But when we are able to read again, these little tips of the author undoubtedly add tension to the entire storytelling.
The most important criterion for a good novel is: if we know the ending, whether we are interested in reading it again. The first time I read it, I read the story of the novel, which is what all novels can satisfy. And the second reading, the third reading, and the subsequent repeated reading, this is really entering the world of the novel, entering the narrative space created by the author, entering the real world in the novel, experiencing the joys, sorrows and sorrows of the characters in the novel, feeling their feelings, that is, substituting themselves into it, and there will be no sense of abruptness. This is the perfect novel. And the reason why a famous work becomes a famous work must be able to achieve this situation. Dickens's story is indeed extraordinary, using ordinary characters to reveal the truth of life, so that people can have a heart to love life after seeing the darkness of the world.
