What makes Wuthering Heights such a masterpiece? First of all, it is not
affected and controlled by the popularity of the city, and completely
depicts an original scene of the mountain village wilderness. It gives
people a taste of a completely different world. The protagonists in the
story all retain their original character: love is desperate, hate is
reckless. All of this is very personal and fresh in the eyes of those of
us who have long been constrained by traditional etiquette. It has been
said that Wuthering Heights is "the greatest epic of human
love" and I would say that it is all due to Emily. Bronte had a
vivid imagination; An intense passion; Her profound inner experience and
her talent and potential to elevate the subject matter. I think these
are the reasons why Wuthering Heights sells so well. As I reflect on
the depth and essence of the book, I find that Wuthering Heights has
taught me many things. One of the things that strikes me the most is
what it has taught me about sustained human dignity and spiritual
freedom. No matter how great a challenge or how cruel an ordeal we face,
we should always aspire to be free.
