"Man may be destroyed, but he shall not be defeated." This sentence is my favorite sentence in "The Old Man and the Sea", and it is also the most touching sentence.

"The Old Man and the Sea" tells the story of an old man who stalemates with a big fish for three days and three nights in the deep sea, and finally successfully catches the big fish on the 85th day, but encounters sharks on the way back. The old man used the only tools on the boat like harpoons, knives, oars and other tools, to engage in the dangerous battle with the sharks. In the end, the old man successfully repelled the sharks and returned to his cabin safely, but the final spoils of this battle were only a huge fishbone. It's a thrilling story, but it's also an evocative one.

From the battle between the old man and the big marlin, we can see that he is an experienced fisherman. He had not yet seen the fish, and he could tell the size of the fish just by the line. Moreover, the old man dared to go deep into the deep sea area alone, and dared to drift alone in a small boat for three days and three nights, which would not have been done if it were not for an experienced fisherman. After encountering a group of sharks, the old man used the only tools on board to repel wave after wave of sharks. In this case, for inexperienced people, there is only one outcome, that is, to die in the belly of a fish. So what kind of person is the old man? He was a skinny, wrinkled old man with his cheeks and neck. The fact that the old man who has survived the wind and candle has single-handedly repelled sharks is in itself worthy of shock and admiration.

When he returned to the village, the whole village was discussing the giant fish, and people were curious about how the old man did it. The bones were San Diego's only trophy for nearly 90 days, and it declared to the village that despite he became old, he could still subdue fish larger than a boat on his own, and that he was still the best fisherman in the village. Just like the old man once wrestled with a big black man when he was young, the game lasted for a day and a night. When the audience was optimistic about the big black man, when he was lowered by the black man by three centimeters, he did not give up, he firmly believed that he would win. In the end, before everyone rushed to work, he finished the race and won.

From the wrist wrestling competition when he was young and the main thread of the story that fought with the big fish, we can feel that there is a strong belief in the old man. He has achieved success after success with his indestructible belief, but in his eyes, each time is a new beginning, and every time he does it, he does not mention the past. When he was old and no longer as strong as he was when he was young, and he could not protect the big fish he caught and was torn apart by sharks and could only bring back the fish bones, he once asked himself, "What defeated you"? And his answer was "there is no such thing, this time only blame me for going too far". No matter what the outcome, the old man did not think that he had failed, he thought that people are not prepared for failure in life, and it was foolish to give up hope completely. From the old man, even though he is scrawny, we see the strength of his soul, see man's non-bowing of fate and years, and see the power of faith.

The author of The Old Man and the Sea, Hemingway, was a great writer who had a famous literary theory, the iceberg theory. According to Hemingway's explanation, the so-called "iceberg principle" is to create a clear image with concise words, and bury one's own feelings and thoughts and emotions in the image to the greatest extent.

The great work of The Old Man and the Sea also has a deep meaning, and also reveals the author's attitude to life Hemingway The process of fishing for the old man is like a person's life, sometimes full of loads, sometimes stormy seas, sometimes hardships, and finally empty-handed. Perhaps the biggest difference between people is how to deal with each other and how to view various situations in the process. The old man in the novel always makes the most of the available resources no matter how bad the situation, does not complain about fate, and remains resolute and optimistic even if nothing is achieved. He was like those lions of his dreams, and no one could defeat him.

Good works affect people's lives. Hopefully, we can be as strong as the protagonist.
