Sherlock Holmes's novels are now generally called detective novels rather than mystery novels. Because, compared with the later novelists who emphasized fairness and riddle solving, Conan Doyle's era was hardly fair to readers or challenging readers. The Hound of Baskerville is actually more special, because compared with other novels, Watson has occupied the main perspective, and Holmes intentionally left most of them out.
