As to where people's notion of cause and effect comes from, the author
explains that it is due to "habitual association. That is, after
seeing similar instances repeated many times, people's minds are
influenced by habit, so that after an event occurs, "they expect
another event to follow it, and call the former event the cause and the
latter event the effect. However, the author cautions that although
there is no causality and inevitability, "contingency is
certain", and people can believe in the belief that something
happened in the past based on experience, and judge the
"contingency" based on the number of occurrences. The size of
"contingency" is judged according to the number of
occurrences, and people act according to this judgment, and that is all.
Therefore, the author clearly states: "Habit is the great guide to
life". The existence of God From his empirical point of
departure the author denies not only the material world and its
causality and necessity, but also the existence of a super-empirical
spiritual entity, God.
