Merchant Antonio was a loyal, kind, and generous person, and his love
and friendship were exploited by Jagi. Jaggi is an extremely complex
character who brutally retaliated against Antonio in order to avenge the
racial discrimination suffered by Jews. The protagonist Portia, on the
other hand, is a beautiful, intelligent, and brave woman who risked her
life to save her fianc é Antonio's life to recover Jaggi's debt to
Antonio. The stories in the book reveal the issues of racial
discrimination and religious prejudice in society.
