Dubliners

Dubliners is an ambitious collection of short stories, and as can be seen from Joyce's vertical and horizontal arrangement, he tries to present the real life of the middle and lower classes of Dublin to the reader in a comprehensive way. So "Dubliners" is not so much a collection of short stories as an "epic" about the people of Dublin, only unlike previous epics that praised heroes, Joyce's "epic" describes the embarrassment of Dublin.
