book review of A Very Short St

This is a story about a nurse and a shoulder. They fell in love with each other after their encounter before the man's operation. They wanted to get married. But they didn't for lacking of time. After the armistice, when they had time, the lady wanted the man to get a good job first and insisted not to come home with him. But they finally broke up and both of them had sex with other guys.

    Now come to the confusing part. Why the lady, who loved the man so much during the war, didn't want to go come home but chose to live in a muddy and rainy town?

    There may be many reasons. From my perspective, during war, people's lives are full of fear and uncertainty. In such kind of situation, people care more about their mental needs for physical things will soon disappear at any time when the war takes their lives. So the nurse lady fell in love with the man so easily and so deeply.

    However, things changed when the war shopped. After armistice, people were sure that their lives were safe. So they began to plan their future, hoping to achieve a peaceful and more rich one. This may be why the lady wanted the man to get a good job first. What she really wanted was what once lost during the war. And I think that is sense of safety.

   But to the man, what he wanted was sense of belonging, which means a family.

   With this contradiction, they broke up in the end.
