Short but Meaningful

Having finished this story,to tell the truth,I couldn't exactly understand what the author really wants to present. After searching for a while,I just got to know that Hemingway is writing a story under the setting of the First World War.And the two persons are just ordinary people as they seemed to be.This short novel tried to express the loveness between two young guys.I think it's to be quite fragile,and there's a bad view on the woman who betrayed their love. Well,the details which I can't figure out made me puzzled about the answer.We can maybe  guess the end,while it's not very important.The war,the move,the being apart,possibly lead the end.
