after reading the five boons

the fairy give the four gift ---pleasure ,love ,fame and wealth to the young man.but at last the man found that they were just pain,grief,shame and poverty in disguise.when he man woke up and wanted to chose death,the fairy had given it to an innocent child.so in the end,what left to the man was the wanton insult of old age.

   at first i couldn't quiet understand what the menaing of the story is.should we chose the death at first?can't we chose pleasure,love,fame and wealth?it couldn't make any sense!

   later,i know that here mark twein is explaining that only when we go through every aspects of life and taste over every sweet and painful moment,can we understand that no matter who wonderful or awful one's life is,he cannot give away from death.five demond represented five different state of our lives.choosing death before our clean souls are changed to a  dirty ones by some temptations will be better.of course ,this seems to be too nagetive.what i want to emphasize is that mark twein is living in the century when the USA  changed into imperialism and he was trying to make every effort to criticize and satire such a social phenomena.though it is not positive in mordern life,it was powerful at that time.so there is no doubt that THE FIVE BOONS OF LIFE is a great work.
