My own weird view to the Mr. G
After reading the story, I want to convey some of my feelings concisely but sincerely. Some one made a comment that Gatsby was some kind of hero in his age. He were born poor but was ambitious. He tried his utmost to do everything for Daisy who he deeply loved. He went through the war and after that still had faith in that Daisy loved him and she married Tom just because she was temporarily influenced by the money. And because of this, he tried his best to earn a lot of money and made himself as a noble gentleman. To attract Daisy’s attention, he forked out a lot of money to hold the big parties one after another. He was like a symbol of the “American Dream” in that period of time, which was that you can achieve your goal by working hard enough for your future life and you can accumulate a lot of possessions and marry your who you deeply loved.
Perhaps the way of thinking is reasonable to some extent in that age where the country was booming in the rapid development of the economic. Everyone wanted to be a part in the redistribution of the social benefits so as to chase for life with increasingly higher quality. Nevertheless I’m not totally in favor of this so-called life goal because in this flourishing time, people was demoralized by the flourishing materialism in the same time and became wicked men filled with greed and vanity. Back to the story, actually we can know that Tom and Daisy was immoral. But I want to say that Gatsby also didn’t have the moral principles. What he did violated the traditional virtues as well. Firstly I don’t approve that a noble gentleman went to have some affair with his old lover who had been married with other man. What’s more, Gatsby didn’t earn his money in a legal and proper way. He played a role as a subordinate or a partner of the man related with the gangsta and worked together to sell illegal wine which was smuggled in. Ultimately, Gatsby made efforts to help his old lover to hide her crime of killing a life. This is absolutely unacceptable. Loving someone don’t mean that we should help her do anything betraying the morality.
I hold my view that there is cause and effect and there is karma from the God for our sin. We should pay for our destroying the morality. Some moral faith is in our heart deeply which can’t be break or the tagedy will happen and ruin our life.
