War   and  Love

According to my reading feedback ,the author had seeded the misery ending in the story for at least three times.At the beginning of the story ,the author described Luz as a cool and fresh girl even in the hot night, which emphasizes that Luz is a girl with saneness and calmness.What’s more , in the middle of the story , the author said that they hadn’t enough time for banns and birth certificate ,which means the man couldn’t provide a formal certificate for their relationship,accelerating Luz’s sense of insecurity. The last time when the author mentioned that the man have not got the letters from Luz until armistic, I guessed their relationship has gone to the end.

  Taken the story as a whole ,from where I stand ,it is the endless war that became the main reason for their breaking-up. The very long war exhausted every restless person ,draining out of their patience to wait for lovers, anticipation to expect beauty and hope to wish.We can’t reproach Luz for behaving so cool or realistic because she did sacrifice most of her youth for this floating love . And thereafter, she must consider for herself as a single lady with no ability to survive during discord time.That’s why we reckoned Hemingway as a typical realistic writer ,who died of owing to the huge gap between reality and his ideal world.
