a book report of The Great Gat

       After reading the Chinese version of The Great Gatsby,i try reading the English one.This story really attract me and leave me into deep thought.

           The Great Gatsby is a 1925 novel written by American author F. Scott Fitzgerald that follows a cast of characters living in the fictional town of West Egg on  Long Island in the summer of 1922. the young and mysterious millionaire----- Jay Gatsby,feel in deep love with Daisy Buchanan,who is  attractive and effervescent, also shallow and self-absorbed.They both have a bad ending.As some experts said,The Great Gatsby "explores themes of decadence, idealism, resistance to change, social upheaval, and excess, creating a portrait of the Jazz Age or the Roaring Twenties that has been described as a cautionary tale regarding the American Dream."

           Nick Carraway,who serves as the novel's narrator,eventually moves back to the Midwest,because he had already got tired of the Eastern lifestyle.In such lifestyle,people all addicted to money and indulged themselves in wines,sex and violence.Jay Gatsby,Daisy Fay Buchanan,Jordan Baker ,George B. Wilson,Myrtle Wilson and Meyer Wolfshiem are all the middle class in that age.However,they merely connect each other with sex and desire,they are a reflection of the capitalism society and the dark side of the American society----now maybe China.These figures were all considered to be "new money",and now in China you can see all kinds of "tuhao"----the "new money"of the modern China.They use their actions to show the luxury and corrupt life ,and illustrate the great gap between the rich and the poor in China.

          Sarah Churchwell sees The Great Gatsby as a "cautionary tale of the decadent downside of the American dream." The story deals with human aspiration to start over again, social politics and its brutality and also betrayal, of one's own ideals and of people.  it also delves into themes of excesses of the rich, and recklessness of youth. As for normal people,such luxury lives are impossible for them to reach. It is said that in china,all young people only have one belief----money,no matter waht education they have get.A teenager who works in factory dreams that one day he can be the boss of a factory;a college student who waste time in playing computer games dreams that he can get a well-paid job as soon as he step into the cruel society.The moral values in China is disappearing as we can see.It's not the false of a certain people,it's the false of the social system and the dark side of human nature.We can not withstand.We can only accept.

          The Great Gatsby does not only exist in 1922.It can also exist in 1822 ,2022 ,or maybe 2122``````
