The Great Gatsby

 I choose The Great Gatsby just because I have seen the movie The Great Gatsby which is acted by Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan.I was really moved by the film at that time.When I firstly open this book,I know I enter Nick’s world again,a pure,peaceful and full of the European castle hacienda-style serene.At first large sections of the biographical text me dizzy.The story is slow,very slow.Nick participated in various social activities boringly.All kinds of people with their fancy name against the numerous and complicated America at the time and the hustle and bustle of society.The author even use many pages to introduce the name of these people.When I saw Gatsby turn to Nick,the story become interesting.And Gatsby, his image also grew plump.When Gatsby was young,he was a solider who is poor.He and Daisy fell in love with each other.However,the first world war broke out and Gatsby went to Europe.They broke up soon.Daisy married Tom,a rich guy.Gatsby was suffering and he thought Daisy betrayed just because he was poor.He made up his mind to become rich so he began to make business illegally.Many years later,he succeed.He built a big castle next to Daisy’s house and always invite people to have a big party there.Daisy and Gatsby met again.However,the story didn’t turn to be happy.The ending in the novel is the same as the film.I was moved again.I cried for Gatsby,cried for his crazy love for Daisy,cried for the funeral which no person came.Many people might think Daisy is cruel.However,we can not blame Daisy.She is snobbery but it is not her fault.The times choose her and she choose the times.Affectionate greed as Tom, but eventually get beauty return; Selfish substances such as Daisy, but enjoy two men’s love and away from long island after desultory life; And pure as Gatsby, but eventually fell in the pool of blood red ripples.The society is full of cold.People are crazy about money.There is no love between people.

 Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that’s no matter—tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther...And one fine morning…… So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past. At the end of the story,the author write these words.The green light,appearing in the novel for many times,I think,is representing dream and hope.But at last imply the loss of dream.Gatsby consider the green light as Daisy,although he realize that Daisy’s voice is full of money.However,Daisy do not believe Gatsby.She can not throw her current life and leave with Gatsby desperately.So what about Nick,the hero of the novel?Nick saw the human reality of virtual betrayal, feeling disgusting and leave for his hometown with a mood of disappointed.
