Pride and Prejudice

林双娣

The book explores the themes of ethics, education, marriage, and wealth by describing the lives of five unmarried daughters and their mothers in rural England. This book discusses the themes of marriage, especially regarding whether marriage should be based on love or material gain. This book also delves into the influence of social status and class on character relationships by depicting different social classes. As the title suggests, this book mainly explores the theme of pride and prejudice. These two personality traits not only play a central role in the relationship between Elizabeth and Darcy, but also are important factors in their personality development.Throughout the novel, Elizabeth and Darcy's understanding of themselves and each other continues to develop and deepen. They eventually overcame the obstacles of self prejudice and arrogance, admitted their mistakes, and accepted each other. The story of Austin mainly focuses on Elizabeth Bennett, the second daughter of the Bennett family's five daughters. When wealthy Mr. Charles Bentley moved to a nearby estate, Mrs. Bennett hoped that he would become the husband of one of her daughters. However, Elizabeth was offended by the arrogant attitude of her friend Bentley, who was Mr. Darcy, an extremely wealthy and proud nobleman.

As the story developed, Mr. Darcy became interested in Elizabeth and proposed to her. Elizabeth initially rejected him mainly because of her first impression of him (arrogance) and her perception of his harm to her friends (prejudice). However, after learning about Darcy's true personality and realizing her own biases, Elizabeth gradually became attracted to Darcy and eventually agreed to his proposal.
