Pride and Preduice

This semester, I read the English novel Pride and Preduice, written by
an English novelist, Austin . This novel tells the story of a romantic
and realistic love between Elizabeth and Darcy, and filled with
reflections on whether status and wealth are important for marriage,
which makes it even more profound. At the beginning of the novel, Darcy
strikes us with an arrogant and aloof image, and Elizabeth's first
impression of him provokes resentment and prejudice. Likewise Darcy had
not fallen in love with Elizabeth at the ball and indeed had despised
the demeaning attentions and attachments of Elizabeth's parents and
sisters, and had persuaded his good friend Bingley to leave her sister
Jilly. But after many conversations with Elizabeth, he gradually fell in
love with this independent lovely girl , and he confessed his love to
Elizabeth after the sense and sensibility match, and finally cleared the
misunderstanding between them anx resolved the contradiction. This is
where their love begins. Their love is utmost pure. Darcy was willing to
put aside everything about identity and status, and other people's
opinions for the sake of love. In the meanwhile, Elizabeth was no longer
looking for Darcy's wealth any more. They love each other deeply and
then have a lasting relationship. In contrast to Elizabeth, her sisters
Jilly and Lydia were married to the ideal of love at first sight, and
one to a sham of material wealth. The marriage of the former one was
desirable, but the latter one was absurd, and ended up in a bad ending.
The older sister's maturity and beautiful helped her gained lots of love
and was always pursued by others, while the younger sister's naivety and
levity invite deceit and suffering. In this novel we can learn that
love is based on self-respect and Self-love. If one lives without the
independence and strong personality, he or she will eventually be
abandoned and devalued by the cruel society reality. Life needs wisdom
and courage, which is obvious in love. Mr. Darcy did not give up after
being rejected. He faced his personality defects and wrote an
explanation letter to Elizabeth in good faith, correcting his arrogant
characteristics and upper-class prejudice. The path of true love is
destined to be full of ups and downs, but no matter what unexpected
circumstances you encounter, you must maintain an independent and
cherished heart, let go of your figure and status, and bravely move
forward. Furthermore, this book also explores the themes of ethics,
education, marriage, and wealth by describing the lives of five
unmarried daughters and their mothers in rural England. And it mainly
discusses marriage, especially regarding whether marriage should be
based on love or material gain. Besides, it also delves into the
influence of social status and class on character relationships by
depicting different social classes. As the title suggests, this book
mainly explores the theme of pride and prejudice. These two personality
traits not only play a central role in the relationship between
Elizabeth and Darcy, but also are important factors in their personality
development. Throughout the novel, Elizabeth and Darcy's understanding
of themselves and each other continues to develop and deepen. They
eventually overcame the obstacles of self prejudice and arrogance and
accepted each other. In my perspective, when pursuing love , we must be
firm in our faith, not because of money, fame or other reasons for hasty
decision, but to insist on finding true love. Once you have made up your
mind to value and love each other, don't change your mind just because
hear something surface or one-sided gossip. You need to stand in a
comprehensive, objective perspective to judge something. Besides, keep
on running your happiness through your efforts. Both marriage and love
are carried out under the interweaving of rationality and sensibility.
Marriage that only considers money is absurd, while marriage that does
not consider money is also foolish. No matter when women choose to
marry, they are not only choosing a partner they like, but also choosing
a life. They have the rights to pursue what they want, and choose the
life they want.
