1.Hold the monarch awe, obey his policies, respect people of higher
status, serve seniors, and support relatives. 2.Mencius believed that
great people should possess qualities of noble conduct, moral integrity,
and exceptional wisdom. He believes that great people are not defined by
bloodline or wealth, but by their own efforts, cultivation, and
practice. In Mencius's view, a truly great person should possess virtues
such as benevolence, righteousness, propriety, wisdom, and
trustworthiness, as well as a responsible attitude towards the interests
and well-being of the people. He emphasized that great people should
lead by example, inspire and influence others through their actions and
words, and guide others towards kindness and justice. Therefore, Mencius
placed more emphasis on the inner qualities and moral conduct of great
men in his definition, rather than external power and status.
