The themes of the book include love, class, morality and personal growth. Through humour and satire, Austen reveals the hypocrisy and prejudice of the society of the time, while also portraying Elizabeth, an independent, intelligent and resourceful woman. Mr Darcy's arrogance and Elizabeth's prejudice are the main obstacles to the development of their relationship, but through gradual understanding and change, the two eventually overcome these obstacles and come together.
