Pride and Prejudice is a classic novel by Jane Austen. It reveals the
pride and prejudice in United Kingdom society in the 19th century with
its unique satire and humor. This work is not only a love novel, but
also a profound social commentary. Arrogance is an attitude of
overconfidence and despising others. In this novel, Mr Darcy is the
representative of arrogance. He was born aristocratic, rich and
powerful, but his arrogance made a bad impression on Elizabethtown when
he first met her. As the story progresses, however, Mr Darcy gradually
reveals a different side of him, his arrogance replaced by his kindness
and responsibility. Prejudice is a biased view of things and an
unwillingness to accept facts and truth. Elizabethtown is a symbol of
prejudice. She was prejudiced against Mr Darcy at first, because his
arrogant behaviour displeased her. However, when she learns the truth
about Mr Darcy, her prejudices fade and she begins to appreciate his
qualities. Jane Austen through this work, let us see the double
influence of pride and prejudice. She reveals how social status, wealth
and appearance influence people's judgments, while also reminding us to
overcome prejudices and treat others fairly and rationally. This novel
is not only a love novel, but also a profound discussion about human
nature, society and morality.
