The Old Man and the Sea- After reading the novel 'The Old Man and the
Sea' with tears in my eyes, I have a lot of feelings. After 84
consecutive days without catching any fish, Cuban fisherman Santiago
finally caught a large marlin alone. However, the fish was so big that
he had to hold his small boat at sea for three days before being
exhausted. He killed him and tied it to one side of the boat. On the way
back, he was repeatedly attacked by sharks, and when he finally returned
to port, only the head, tail, and spine were left. This is written based
on real people and events. In life, some people have escaped the
devastation of war, but seeing their loved ones die, they are powerless
and can only leave their bodies like bidding farewell to stone statues
and walk into the rain. They can only show bravery and grace in the face
of misfortune. Where is Old Santiago? Although he was in a
disadvantageous position from the beginning, not catching any fish for
84 days, thinking he had fallen into "blood mold", and other
fishermen regarded him as a failure. He was thin and haggard, with deep
scars on his hands, and had no money to buy food. He had to rely on the
child to bring him, but his bravery lay in knowing it was impossible. In
85 days, he was determined to fish for big fish in the distance. When he
really caught a big marlin, knowing that the opponent had stronger
strength than him, he still decided to fight to the end. I will
accompany you until death, "he said," because being a
fisherman is the profession I was born to do. When the sharks repeatedly
attacked, he used all personal means to counterattack. The harpoon was
taken away by the shark, and he tied the small knife to the oar handle
and stabbed it haphazardly. The knife broke, he used a short stick. The
short stick was also thrown away, and he used the helm to strike, but
even though the fish was bitten off, nothing could break his brave will.
After the first shark bit off about four pounds of fish meat, the old
man thought to himself, "But people are not born to fail. A person
can be destroyed, but cannot be defeated." His strong will is what
moved me the most. And the wreckage of that big fish, the author finally
described it as: 'It is now just garbage, waiting for the tide to take
it away.' This implies that all material things, including humans, are
destined to be destroyed, and only human actions and memories of actions
are eternal. So, the last sentence of the book is: "The old man is
dreaming of a lion." Through the lion, it represents vigorous
vitality and youth, and also indicates that the old fisherman maintains
a good memory of things. The most touching part of 'The Old Man and the
Sea' for me is the brave will, firm determination, and tenacious
vitality of the old fisherman. He faced repeated failures and despair,
without giving up at all; He faced the cruel devastation of life without
losing heart at all; He faced the erosion and unfairness of heaven on
himself without any complaints I used to be a girl who was afraid of
pain, crying loudly when getting injections, wrestling, and so on.
However, after watching "The Old Man and the Sea", I learned
that people are not born for failure. A person can be destroyed, but
cannot be defeated; I have learned that not only can gods create
miracles, but humans can also, as long as you have the spirit of a
fisherman; I got it! Yeah, people need to have the belief like fishermen
that 'people are not born for failure, a person can be destroyed, but
cannot be defeated' in order to reap fruitful results; People should not
be afraid of difficulties, sacrifices, dangers, or retreat
