Chapter 7: Oliver's First Lesson
Fagin starts to train Oliver in the art of pickpocketing. He shows Oliver how to steal handkerchiefs, using mock-ups and demonstrations. Oliver, still innocent and unaware of the full implications, goes along with it, thinking it's just a strange game. Meanwhile, the other boys in the gang, like Charley Bates, seem to embrace the criminal lifestyle wholeheartedly.
