Freedom: At its core, the novel is a profound exploration of freedom.
Huck, fleeing from the constricting and often hypocritical “civilized”
society, and Jim, escaping the bonds of slavery, both seek freedom in
their own ways. Their journey down the river symbolizes a physical and
spiritual escape. Huck’s internal struggle between what society deems
right (returning Jim to slavery) and his own growing sense of morality
(helping Jim achieve freedom) showcases the complex nature of freedom
and personal choice. This theme resonates universally, as the quest for
autonomy is a fundamental human desire that transcends time periods.
