Book reviews
At the forefront of the narrative is the issue of slavery, a blight on American history. Huck's relationship with Jim, a runaway slave, serves as a microcosm of the moral contradictions within society. Huck, raised in an environment where slavery was the norm, initially views helping Jim as a transgression. However, as they share countless experiences on the raft, Huck begins to see Jim as a friend, a fellow human being with his own hopes and fears. This internal struggle within Huck - between what he has been taught is "right" and what his heart tells him is just - is both poignant and relevant.
