Reading “An Introduction to Chinese Culture” has opened the door for me
to understand thousands of years of Chinese culture. It presents the
vivid context of traditional culture in a clear structure, making me
deeply feel a sense of awe and identification with Chinese culture
welling up in my heart. The book simplifies profound traditional culture
by outlining material and spiritual civilization. From Chinese
characters and calligraphy that combine form and meaning, and brushwork
that exudes grace and expression, to delicate ceramics and smooth silk,
as well as warm customs and festivals—all these make distant traditions
no longer rigid symbols, but living marks that embody ancient wisdom,
aesthetics, and the breath of daily life. Meanwhile, it has systematized
my fragmented understanding of traditional culture. Moreover, the soul
of traditional culture lies in its spiritual core that permeates
people's minds and hearts. The benevolence and integrity advocated by
Confucianism, the harmony between man and nature pursued by Taoism, as
well as the integration and coexistence of thoughts from different
schools, have shaped the character rooted in the nation's soul,
influencing how Chinese people live and what values they uphold. This is
precisely the foundation for the longevity of Chinese civilization for
thousands of years, and it has helped me clearly perceive the spiritual
power within traditional culture. This reading has not only refined my
framework for understanding culture but also awakened my inner cultural
confidence. Traditional culture is not a long-forgotten past, but a
spiritual sustenance that nourishes us. From this day forward, I will
uphold this treasure with reverence, draw strength from the
thousand-year-old cultural heritage, and breathe new life into the
excellent traditional Chinese culture in the present age.
