This book is a lively and accessible introduction to the evolution of the English languages, it distills a thousand years of history into short,esay-to-follow chapters that explain how English absorbed words from Latin ,French, and other languages, and how it spread across the globe to become a truly global tongue.
What I enjoyed most is how it connects language to culture and history-showing how events like to Norman Conquest or the rise of the internet shaped the words we use today.
