Catherine’s line “I am Heathcliff” speaks volumes for the symbiotic bond of their souls, yet it was her vanity and cowardice that dragged both of them into the abyss. Heathcliff evolved from an abused orphan into a ruthless avenger; his hatred was a distortion of love, and every act of revenge tore at his already shattered soul.
