Insights into Chinese Culture is a well-organized introductory book that systematically unfolds the long-standing civilization of China. From ancient philosophy, traditional ethics to folk customs, art and science, the book sorts out the core essence of Chinese culture in plain and easy-to-follow language. Different from rigid academic textbooks, it combines historical stories with typical cultural phenomena. It elaborates on Confucian benevolence, Taoist natural philosophy, classic literature and ancient Chinese inventions, helping readers grasp how Chinese values and national spirits gradually took shape. Besides, the book makes reasonable comparisons between Chinese and foreign cultures, which removes obstacles for cross-cultural understanding. As an English normal student, this book brings me remarkable gains. It collects authentic English expressions for various cultural items, equipping me with rich teaching materials to combine Chinese culture with future English lessons. Previously, I could hardly introduce traditional culture accurately in English; now I am able to design classroom activities to help students learn English while appreciating domestic culture and boosting cultural confidence. The book has a tiny flaw: it covers too many cultural fields and cannot dig deep into every content. Even so, it remains an excellent handbook for prospective English teachers and culture lovers to learn and spread Chinese civilization.
