After Reading Dubliners — A Simple Reflection After finishing Dubliners by James Joyce, I felt both moved and thoughtful. This book is a collection of short stories about ordinary people living in Dublin. Each story shows a different side of life in the city — family, work, love, and loneliness. What impressed me most is how Joyce describes everyday life in such a real and honest way. The characters are not famous or heroic. They are common people facing small but painful struggles. Some feel stuck in their lives, some are disappointed by love, and others are simply lonely. Through their stories, I could feel a strong sense of "paralysis" — a feeling of being unable to change or escape. One story I especially liked is Eveline. Eveline is a young girl who wants to leave Dublin with her lover, but in the end, she chooses to stay. Her fear and hesitation made me feel sad, but also helped me understand how hard it is to make life-changing decisions. Reading Dubliners helped me improve my English and also taught me more about human emotions. Joyce’s writing is simple, but full of meaning. Even though the book was written over a hundred years ago, the feelings in it still feel real today. In conclusion, Dubliners is not a book with exciting plots, but it is powerful in its quiet and honest way. It shows the beauty and sadness of ordinary life. I’m glad I read it, and I hope to read more of Joyce’s works in the future.
