Short Book Review

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is a classic novel that exposes
the emptiness of the American Dream in the materialistic Jazz Age. The
story follows Jay Gatsby, a self-made wealthy man who devotes his whole
life to pursuing his idealized love for Daisy. Through the narration of
Nick Carraway, readers witness Gatsby’s passionate devotion and
persistent hope, as well as the cold selfishness of the upper class.
Gatsby’s tragic death reveals a cruel truth: wealth and glamour cannot
cover moral decay. The famous green light symbolizes people’s distant,
unreachable dreams. In essence, the novel is a sorrowful reflection on
illusion, desire, and disillusionment, reminding readers that blind
pursuit of luxury and past fantasies always ends in failure.
