Wuthering Heights is the only novel written by Emily Brontë, a famous British writer in the 19th century. It has become one of the most remarkable masterpieces in English literature. The story tells about Heathcliff, an abandoned gypsy boy. Adopted by the owner of Wuthering Heights, he suffers unfair treatment and loses his beloved Catherine. Full of pain and anger, he leaves the hometown and makes a fortune years later. Then he comes back and takes cruel revenge on the Linton family and their children. What impresses me most is the powerful, wild love and hatred between the characters. The book is full of strong emotions and the gloomy beauty of the Yorkshire moors. It is not only a love story, but also talks about prejudice, dignity and human nature. Even though this graded version is written in simple English, it still keeps the soul of the original great work. It is well worth reading, and it makes me eager to read the complete novel someday.
