Reading report of the last pro
The last book I read was the last problem, a detective story written by Arthur Conan Doyle , a famous novelist in 19th century . In this story , the main character ,Sherlock Holmes and James Moriarty ,started a duel in Reichenbach waterfall , and after the fierce fight , the detective Sherlock Holmes and Dr. James Moriarty both fell into the waterfall . Finally , Sherlock survived and Moriarty died , indicating that one of the most important villain in the series of Sherlock Holmes never exist .
There is no doubt that Conan Doyle was an outstanding writer .He successfully shaped one of the most popular heros , Sherlock Holmes ,and the most appealing and evil villain , Dr .James Moriarty .The duel between these two guys was spectacular under the description of Conan Doyle . The fighting skills as well as the wisdom of these two geniuses are almost the same , therefore , at the end of the story ,Sherlock and Moriarty both fell into the water .Originally ,Sherlock and Moriarty was both died after falling into the deep waterfall .However , tens of thousands of fans refused to accept the fact , they didn’t want their hero Sherlock Holmes die and request Conan Doyle to rewrite the story ,reflecting the popularity of Sherlock Holmes at that time . Under the pressure of the crazy fans , the writer rewrite the story , making Sherlock Holmes revived and appeal in “the empty house case”
After reading the last problem , I felt myself shocked by the match between justice and evil . It is quite dangerous for Sherlock to start the duel with the most outstanding criminal James Moriarty , but Sherlock regarded the danger as nothing because of his sense of responsibility . He once said” If my record were closed to-night , I could still survey it with equanimity .(The air of London is the sweeter for my presence.) In over a thousand cases I am not aware that I have ever used my powers upon the wrong side” To Sherlock , when his power was used in fighting with the evil people and making London even England better , his power was used in the right side and he was willing to make London better as once a person have the power which is beyond the ordinary , he has to be responsible for the more important thing such as the harmony of the society ,the better life of people and even the world peace . From my point of view , it is because Sherlock had this sense of responsibility that tens of thousands of fans loved him and even made him the image in 19th century .
Conan Doyle once said that he was tired of writing the story of Sherlock Holmes because it occupied a lot of time of his daily life. But after finishing writing the last problem , he regained the passion of writing the new story ,I think it is the charm of the classical work , which gives people , especially writers, endless enthusiasm to create something new . In today’s world , many people are crazy about the story of Sherlock Holmes partly because the last problem enriched the characteristic of Sherlock Holmes , making him the real hero rather than a detective , that’s the reason why Sherlock Holmes enjoy a high prestige around the world .
Reading good books not only makes us wiser but also helps to shape our world view .Through reading Steve Jobs :A biography, we understand the value of loyalty and attitude towards career; By reading the little prince ,we can make sense of the fact that if all people get themselves addicted in chasing for meaningless things ,the true beauty in the world would be ignored ; By reading letter from an unknown woman, we can clearly feel the value of love and power of hope ; By reading the last problem , we are able to acknowledge that justice will be done and evil people will never become the winner in the battle against the righteous people . That’s what I gained after finishing my reading of these four excellent works .
