Mr.Holmes——Our Everlasting Her
Arthur Conan Doyle's "His Last Bow" has given me a lot of fancy and enjoyment. The book reveals us a picture of the everlasting hero Sherlock Holmes's last show during his long detective life, which was brilliant but regretful for big fans like me.
After years of adventures with his best friend Dr.John Hamish Watson, Sherlock has become a big star in England and also older day by day. The book is set on the period when our hero has retired from his beloved detective job and applied his energy which is not that much to the beautiful natural scenery in a quiet countryside. However, the chaotic times made requests for his genius help. With the German war closing,Sherlock made his mind to gather his wisdom and courage to fight delicate crimes in the front. Our hero has come back. London has great luck and so do people feel the power even thousands of miles or years of time, let alone readers who only be away by a layer of paper. In conclusion, this book shows us the beginning and the end of an era,in which we have a wonderful world to hunt for.
Sherlock and his friend Watson's story is not entirely concluded in this little book. It's known to all that"The Last Bow"is just a part of Arthur Conan Doyle's genius idea. The reason I chose this book is that plots are very tight and attractive and the end is unforgettable, either. It's said that most of the devoted followers of Mr.Holmes weren't satisfied with the tragic ending that Holmes died with the villain Professor James Moriarty in Reichenbach Waterfall, which was to be the story's final result. And Arthur Conan Doyle responded to the huge pressure by creating a revive for Sherlock and lots of wonderful cases as well. Definitely we can see the unparalleled affection for the novel and Sherlock himself through this. So how can he become a huge star on the bottom of people's heart?
I'd like to change the question to"what aspects of the novel appeal to me most. "In my opinion, the brilliant analysis of Shorlock can't be neglected. As we all know, even his opponent admires his brain and unusual thoughts of handing elusive cases. He seems to have a strong power in every place that crimes happened to get complicated things organised and in line. It's a kind of bravo ability but not born with cause we know he has normal parents which makes Sherlock more close to people around him. You can deny my statement of course.
Secondly, his perseverance for finding the truth moves me a lot. When officers told him the criminal had been caught,no matter how slight he found the problem is,he would think it through and prove every tiny possibility till the truth comes out. His attitude for cases gives me enlightenment in daily life. One cannot be 100% sure about something before he has tried all the possibilities. I thank Holmes for the lessons.
Another valuable quality I admire is his sincerety for his friends. Sherlock talks little but does a lot when things happen. Just talk about he and his best friend,Watson. In this book,Sherlock shows his consideration in every letter and entrustment for Watson. Even when the situation is wrost,he remembers to protect his dear Watson by detailed arrangement and powerful counterattack. The ending is sad while he doesn't forget writing a letter to friends alive, which moves me a lot.
I can't feel the fearless movements fighting with Professor in Reichenbach Waterfall, while I can feel the loss losing Our Everlasting Hero--Sherlock Holmes, clearly. We won't let you go.
