Mrs. March's purpose is to make her daughters understand that all play
and no work is as bad as all work and no play. She wants her daughters
to realize that only a good balance between work and play can make their
lives more meaningful.
As a mother, Mrs March wanted the girls to stand on their own feets. At
the same time, she did this to keep the girls busy, who had been free
for several days, so that they would not be so bored.
She wanted daughters to see that being comfortable depends on us all
helping each other and not just thinking of ourselves. Isn't it better
to have time for play and time for work, make each day useful and enjoyable.
She wanted her daughters to understand that a comfortable life and a job
did not conflict with each other, that a life of work without play was
bad, but a life of play without work was just as bad.
She wanted them to see that being comfortable depends on them all
helping each other and not just thinking of themselves. Isn't it better
to have time for play and time for work, and to make each day useful and enjoyable?
