this novel reflects a common social phenomonen in the 19th century, people pursue money and high social status. They ignored and against the normal social rules. Mrs hurstwood worship money and vanity and destory her peaceful and happy family. she ignored her duty to take good care of her husband and children but pursuing vanity. even when she found Mr hurstwood took a mistress, she didn't feel angry and sad. she just thought how to take her husband's property. It was a crazy but common phenomonen in that society.
